On March 2, 2023, the DWP issued a statement on the future of the Pensions Dashboard Programme (PDP), confirming that extra time is needed for its delivery. Currently, the first connection deadline is August 31, 2023, for master trusts with 20,000 or more active and deferred members. All schemes' deadlines will now change following this announcement but there are no firm amended dates yet.

The DWP plans to legislate "at the earliest opportunity" to amend the current deadlines. A further DWP update will be provided to the House before summer recess on July 20, 2023, so it seems the deadlines for staging are to be pushed back at least 3 months and possibly longer.

On March 15, 2023, the PDP published FAQs concerning connection deadlines and suggesting that certain preparatory steps can be taken in advance of connection, including data cleansing, developing an approach to data matching and determining the method of connection. The Regulator has modified its existing checklist for pension schemes preparing to connect to dashboards to reflect the connection delay. It strongly advises trustees to make the most of the extra time available to ensure their scheme is dashboard-ready.
