Professional Regulation

The legal profession is regulated by Bar Associations established in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Luxembourg or Diekirch). The Luxembourg Bar is also an Observer Member of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (Le Conseil des barreaux européens) (CCBE). In this respect, the Luxembourg Bar Association has adhered to the statutes and adopted the CCBE Code of Conduct. Our Luxembourg office comprises lawyers (Avocats) who are regulated by the Barreau de Luxembourg (Luxembourg Bar).

Complaints Procedures

We are determined to ensure that all complaints are sensitively, sensibly and satisfactorily resolved.

We are committed to providing a high quality service in all respects. A complaint from a client is a matter of real concern to us and if a client has a complaint about our service we will do our best to resolve it. You will not be charged for us investigating your complaint. We are determined to ensure that all complaints are sensitively, sensibly and satisfactorily resolved.

If you are a client and you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our service (including our bill) we suggest that, in the first instance, you should raise this with the partner who has responsibility for the matter or, with your relationship partner, who will be happy to discuss your concerns with you. If you remain dissatisfied following our final response, you may be entitled to ask the Luxembourg bar to organise a mediation by email to: mediation@barreau.lu

However, the mediator of the Luxembourg Bar is not authorised to intervene when the dispute concerns a matter reserved for the decision-making competence of the Luxembourg Bar, in particular if the dispute relates to the confidentiality of exchanges, a conflict of interest, the taxation of fees or assistance judiciaire.

Professional indemnity Insurance

Each Luxembourg registered lawyer is covered by an indemnity insurance policy for the duration of their registration at the Bar. In addition, we maintain professional indemnity insurance cover as required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority of England and Wales Indemnity Insurance Rules 2013, on a world-wide basis with two Lloyds Syndicates: QBE Syndicate 0386, QBE Syndicate 1886 and Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. Please refer to the General Counsel in London for further details of the insurance and how to contact the insurers.

In cases where professional indemnity insurance is required to be placed locally in accordance with statute or regulation, details of such policies can be provided upon request by the General Counsel in London.
