At the start of 2024, Canada introduced legislation aimed at combating modern slavery within supply chains. This act was designed to fulfill Canada’s international human rights commitments by imposing reporting obligations on certain government institutions and entities to address forced and child labour. With the first reporting year now complete, Public Safety Canada has presented its findings to Parliament and issued updated guidance. As we look ahead to 2025, we will be discussing the refreshed guidance to the modern slavery reporting requirements and potential future legislation.
