Biography

Madeline Inzenga is a shipping and offshore energy litigation associate and a member of the firm’s energy and infrastructure litigation practice.

Madeline has represented vessel owners, port authorities, energy companies, chemical plants, construction companies, and contractors in shipping and energy litigation matters. Her litigation experience ranges from pre-suit investigation through appeal, and she has first-chaired hearings and taken and defended multiple depositions.

Madeline routinely assists energy companies and commodity traders to avoid disputes and mitigate risks by advising on proposed trading and shipping operations, with particular emphasis on unique Jones Act, Cargo Preference Act, and U.S. general maritime law issues. She has experience advocating for clients on matters involving the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Maritime Administration.

Madeline graduated from Tulane University Law School, one of the premier universities for admiralty and maritime law, where she received the Charles Kohlmeyer Jr. Award in Maritime Law.

  • Represented owner and operator of hydrocarbon marine terminal facility in connection with tanker breakaway and allision matter.
  • Assisted foreign renewable project sponsor on compliance with the Cargo Preference Act of 1954 and engaged with the Maritime Administration to ensure sponsor's project logistics strategy was compliant with law. 
  • Assisted in representation of vessel classification society in connection with multiple USCG investigations into US Gulf Coast and Atlantic Coast investigations.
  • Advised numerous commodity traders and charterers on safe-berth and safe-port risks under U.S. general maritime law.
  • Handled numerous charter party disputes, including demurrage, detention, and force majeure disputes.
  • Advised charterer on general average dispute in connection with vessel breakdown during Asia to U.S. voyage.
  • Advised vessel owners, charterers, and traders on U.S. maritime regulatory risks, including under the Jones Act and Cargo Preference Act of 1954.
  • Advised commodities traders and charterers on vessel blending and commingling operations under SOLAS.
  • Assisted in representation of U.S. midstream energy company in a $400 million breach of contract litigation matter.
