Norton Rose Fulbright advises TotalEnergies on divestment in West Burton B
United Kingdom | Press release - Business | December 2024
Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised TotalEnergies on the divestment of a 50% interest in the West Burton B CCGT and co-located BESS assets to EP UK Investments Limited, a UK subsidiary of Energetický a Průmyslový Holding (EPH).
West Burton B is a gas-fired power plant, with a co-located 49 MW BESS, which was commissioned in 2013 and is based in Nottinghamshire, England. It comprises three CCGTs with a total output of 1.3 GW and is one of the UK’s most advanced power plants.
Prior to the divestment, Norton Rose Fulbright advised TotalEnergies on its acquisition of the West Burton B CCGT and BESS assets. The 50% divestment in West Burton B adjusts TotalEnergies’ net flexible generation capacity in the UK to 700 MW, which is consistent with the capacity required to support TotalEnergies’ growth in renewables in the UK. The transaction will also enable TotalEnergies to continue strengthening its trading capabilities in the UK and provide available, sustainable and affordable energy to UK customers, while also building on its history of partnership with the incoming investor, EPH, to combine their complementary expertise.
The Norton Rose Fulbright team advised TotalEnergies on all legal aspects of the transaction and was led by London-based partner Andrew Davies. Andrew was further supported by a multi-disciplinary team of specialist lawyers from the firm’s London office, including partners Catrina Smith, Charles Pinkerton, Chris Down, Hannah Meakin, Ian Giles, Julia Lloyd, Lucy Bruce Jones, Mike Knapper, Stephen Rigby and Tim Schaper.
Andrew Davies commented:
“We worked closely with the TotalEnergies team on this complex divestment and are pleased to have assisted them in completing the transaction, which supports TotalEnergies’ long-term renewable energy growth strategy in the United Kingdom.”
The full team included:
- Counsels Ben Wright, Jamie Cooke and Suncica Miletic.
- Senior associates Alex Redbourne, Alexandra Jeffreys, Helen Finnis, Jack Jeffries, Katarzyna Berestecka, Rebecca Yourstone, Sam Morrey, Shiv Daddar, Tobias Teichner and Will Scott.
