As it did last year, our corporate governance team prepared a legal update presenting its predictions, based on the current governance environment, and its recommendations on issues that should be of importance when preparing for the 2020 proxy season. This update addresses a variety of hot topics, including climate change and cybersecurity disclosure, corporate purpose, diversity and inclusion, shareholder and stakeholder activism, and compensation. It takes into account comments made by representatives of institutional investors and the Autorité des marchés financiers (Quebec securities regulator) at a conference held recently at our Montreal office.

Following the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s (DESNZ) October 2024 announcement on a proposed cap and floor regime for Long Duration Electricity Storage (LDES), Ofgem published its ‘call for input’ on Role, Plan, and response to the DESNZ on 18 December 2024 (Call for Input).

Chancellor postpones second phase of Pensions Review “indefinitely”
One of Labour’s election manifesto pledges was a detailed Pensions Investment Review, the second phase of which appears to have been postponed “indefinitely”. The interim report of the first phase of the review was published on November 14, 2024.
