Business and legal operations graduate scheme
This scheme
Qualifications
An impeccable academic record and intellectual rigour are prerequisites. We expect successful candidates to have at least AAB at A-level (or equivalent) and be on track for a 2:1 (or equivalent). Any academic degree is acceptable.
You will have an enquiring mind, strong interpersonal skills, and the motivation to make constant progress. You will never stop pushing yourself forward, grasping every opportunity that our firm has to offer. You’ll be interested in business too, and keen to build relationships within a firm that will help you make progress with purpose.
How many business trainees will you take?
We don’t have a set number for any given year but usually hire around four people to the scheme each year, for a cohort starting in August.
How many business trainees will be offered a permanent role?
When we take on a business and legal operations trainee, we are making an investment. We expect to retain a high proportion, but the number we retain will be based on the number who reach an objective standard and business need, not a quota. You will be given a lot of support to reach this standard, and regularly appraised and given feedback throughout the scheme to help you reach your potential.
Where will I be based?
All rotations will be based in our London office, except for our client secondment opportunity, however this will also be London based.
Does this scheme lead to a legal qualification?
No. This scheme is designed for graduates who would like to pursue a career in law as an industry – which is different to being a lawyer. Both careers are challenging and rewarding, but they are very different. If you would like to apply for a legal training contract please visit our UK graduate recruitment site.
Will this scheme lead to a professional qualification?
The scheme predominantly sits within NRF Transform, our legal transformation programme, which encompasses a number of related but different disciplines. This scheme is designed to give a rounded exposure to several of those disciplines. On successful completion of the scheme, you would join one of a number of teams, some of which are supported by professional qualifications. In those circumstances, you may be eligible (and may be required) to gain the relevant professional qualification.
This is a graduate role at a law firm. Do I need to have been to law school or hold a law degree?
No. However, we would welcome any evidence that you are interested in law as an industry and have some understanding of it.
The role involves legal technology. Do I need to have a background in computer science or particular technology related qualifications?
No. However, we would welcome any evidence that you are interested in the application of technology to business (and particularly to legal businesses like NRF) and have some understanding of it.
Are you looking for degrees in particular subject areas?
No. As the scheme offers a broad range of opportunities to our graduates, we are keen to find candidates from a broad range of subject areas, but who are interested in the legal sector, are motivated and eager to learn, have great commercial acumen and are comfortable with the unknown.
