Biography
Freya is a commercial lawyer in our Commonwealth Australian Government practice, based in Canberra. Freya specialises in providing strategic, commercial advice to client. She has both "front end" and "back end" experience acting for public and private clients in relation to a number of commercial and disputes matters.
Freya's commercial front end experience extends to commercial contracting and procurement and she has skills in project structuring and design, policy compliance, contract drafting, contract management and negotiation.
Freya has a special interest in strategic and commercial issue resolution. Prior to joining Norton Rose Fulbright in 2020, Freya spent 6.5 years with a national top-tier firm as a civil litigator (where she acted and appeared for clients in a range of forums including the High Court of Australia, ACT and NSW Supreme Courts, Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Dust Diseases Tribunal).
Freya uses her dispute resolution experience to inform the strategic and commercial approach she adopts in project structuring, design and contractual drafting. Her involvement in litigation of contractual and commercial disputes has provided her with a nuanced appreciation of good contract drafting and probity. In the area of contractual and commercial disputes, Freya's skills and experience span claims by and against the Government in relation to issues of time (eg, schedule delays, liquidated damages, prevention/postponement), quality (eg, defects, warranties, loss of use), cost (eg, variations, at-risk amounts, applying KPIs) and performance more generally (eg, termination, repudiation, de-scoping rights).
