Biography
Andrew Avery is a commercial real estate lawyer based in Calgary. Andrew has experience in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions from single-asset acquisitions and dispositions to portfolios of properties across Canada.
Andrew also practises in mortgage-backed financing, leasing, subdivision and title matters, and development work. Andrew has experience advising parties on all sides of real estate transactions including purchasers, vendors, developers, first mortgage lenders, mezzanine lenders, landlord and tenants. On mergers and acquisitions, Andrew is regularly engaged to manage all real property components of those transactions.

Andrew has acted for the following clients:
- The partner of a landmark mixed-use building in Calgary on a highly complex restructuring, including the registration of strata plan, unwinding a three-party partnership, sale of the commercial and residential components of the building, and advancing mezzanine financing including the negotiation of a tri-partite agreement between lenders.
- A real estate developer’s complex acquisition of a five-property industrial portfolio in Edmonton with a phase 1 closing and a phase 2 closing involving financing and joint ventures.
- A retail co-operative’s acquisition of a national chain of stores.
- A lender’s financing for new site servicing and construction financing to a limited partnership regarding the construction of a 95-unit town home development in Calgary.
- The sale of a sports agent’s business and its partnership into a larger consolidated sports agent enterprise.
