Biography

Niall Cooney’s practice focuses on identifying, procuring, and protecting intellectual property rights. Mr. Cooney has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in Canada and the United States in a wide variety of fields, including computer hardware and software, distributed computing, image processing, telecommunications, financial technologies, mechanical devices, manufacturing, oil and gas, and medical devices.

Mr. Cooney regularly provides Canadian clients, from start-ups to large high-tech companies, with strategic advice on identifying patentable subject matter arising from innovation activities, assessing the competitive landscape, and coordinating the drafting and prosecution of patent families worldwide to maximize value.   

Mr. Cooney received numerous awards throughout law school, including the Dean's Bronze Scholar Award for third-highest standing and the course prize in patent law.
