N.L. Hydro mulls building new diesel-powered turbine
The federal government is paving the way for a net-zero power grid by 2035. Earlier this month, the government released its draft Clean Electricity Regulations. Provinces and territories will have 75 days to provide feedback and comments on the proposed regulation. Newfoundland and Labrador is facing a power crunch and surge in demand for electricity. The province is looking at options and potentially building a new combustion turbine on the Avalon Peninsula. Energy lawyer Matthew Keen spoke to Radio-Canada about N.L. Hydro's proposed project. "I think the distinction here is you've got an isolated reliability need and you've got draft regulations that are supposed to cover the entire country. And doubtless, you've got engineers and lawyers who are trying to figure out how those two things are going to fit together." Read the story for more details.
