As corporate citizens we have a responsibility to use our skills, time and knowledge to make a difference. Whether it is for our clients or for the communities we operate in, we strive to shape the future in a way that provides economic, ecological and social benefits for all. To demonstrate our corporate social responsibility, we have launched the Impact program, which is made up of the following pillars: social impact, pro bono legal services, sustainability and the global charitable initiative.

  • Social Impact
We give back to our local communities in many different ways, through donations, employee fundraising and by contributing time and skills to a wide range of community initiatives.
  • Pro bono
We encourage our people to use their legal knowledge on a pro bono basis to help people in the communities where we live and work, who otherwise lack access to the services we offer.
  • Sustainability
We are committed to minimizing our impact on the environment in order to protect the planet, ensure resources are available for future generations and to create a better quality of life for all living beings.
  • Global Charitable initiative
Since 2012, we have endeavoured to bring our people together in support of our global charitable initiatives. These are in addition to the local charitable activities that our 50+ offices around the world support. Our global charitable initiatives are proposed and sponsored by a different region each year; each is asked to choose an initiative that resonates with the worldwide staff, enjoys broad support among staff members globally and motivates many of them to participate and take action.

Alignment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Our Impact program has four focus areas: Health and Wellbeing, Environmental Stewardship, Access to Justice, Social and Economic Inclusion. These focus areas align to the following eight United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

Alignment to the Sustainable Development Goals allows us to quantify our firm-wide impact and contribute to the global goals set out by the United Nations.

In order to achieve our broader CSR goals, we have partnered with Benevity and created a new program to increase our overall impact in the ways we support the interests of our people in their communities; to create awareness around our programs; and to provide a nationally consistent experience that resonates at the local level.

Benevity, one of Western Canada's largest start-ups, is a Calgary-based company that provides charitable donation-management and grant-management platforms.
