Providence Living Society develops innovative community care facility
Our Vancouver office advised Providence Health Care Society on the organization of “Providence Living Society,” a subsidiary that is intended to own and operate Providence Health Care Society’s portfolio of community care facilities. We assisted Providence Living Society to acquire St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Comox, BC, secure municipal entitlements for a subdivision of the ocean-cliff property, and negotiate a C$60m+ construction loan for an innovative health and dementia care facility to be known as Providence Living Place, which will include a childcare centre and other community amenities. The first of its kind in British Columbia, the facility will include 148 publicly funded long-term care beds and eight publicly funded respite beds. This facility is modelled on “dementia village” care centres developed in Europe that are recognized as providing a new model of care that better fosters a sense of community.
