Energy Transition: Where to invest in 2022
Recently, Anne Lapierre, Global Head of Energy at Norton Rose Fulbright, joined a panel discussion with representatives of Baringa and CIBC Capital Markets on "Energy transition: Where to invest in 2022".
The panel discussion centered on recent developments in energy transition, with a particular focus on the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow in November, 2021. Key takeaways noted from COP26 were a continued emphasis on the long-term global warming target of no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, climate cooperation between the US and China, and the accelerated electrification of transportation.
Panelists noted that although energy transition and de-carbonization are accelerating at an unprecedented pace, there is still an "ambition gap" between de-carbonization targets and the progress made so far. It was noted that while clean tech solutions can be deployed at scale in electricity and heat production, short distance road transport, light and heavy industries, long distance aviation and shipping still require both public and private sector efforts to achieve significant improvements.
