Biography
Kate Dwyer is a lawyer in our Disputes Practice Group (Litigation Team) based in Sydney.
Kate's practice largely involves defending negligence and intentional tort claims on behalf of public sector clients including the Commonwealth Department of Defence and New South Wales government agencies including the New South Wales Police Force, Department of Communities and Justice, Department of Education and NSW Health. Kate also has experience defending general liability claims for Sydney Trains and Westpac General Insurance Limited.
In addition to her disputes practice, Kate also has experience in responding to statutory inquiries. Most recently Kate has assisted the Department of Defence in responding to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
Kate has also been involved in the administration of the Compensation Assessment Scheme set up to compensate victims of a data breach that occurred on the website of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (now named the Department of Home Affairs), pursuant to HYYL and Privacy Commissioner [2023] AATA 2961.
Kate has extensive experience in providing strategic advice in relation to liability, causation and quantum. She manages claims throughout various stages of litigation in both New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory including interlocutory proceedings, alternative dispute resolution and trials.
Before working with NRF, Kate was a solicitor at a national insurance law firm practicing in asbestos litigation.
