Biography

Shannon Wheaton is a financial services, disputes and investigations lawyer who counsels broker-dealers, investment advisory firms and mortgage banks. She also has experience on both sides of the aisle in housing matters.

  • Helped negotiate a favorable outcome for an investment advisory firm after a former customer alleged improper sales practices and overconcentration
  • Assisted a national bank in resisting the efforts of a former representative to expunge a negative event from her FINRA registration, after the event caused a seven-figure loss to the firm
  • Assisted a national bank in negotiating favorable resolution of multiple suits alleging violation of the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
  • Handled over 150 collections matters in FINRA arbitration on behalf of a broker-dealer seeking to recover unpaid loans from its former financial advisors
  • Represented a national mortgage bank in resisting a wrongful foreclosure claim with novel legal issues concerning the obligations of guarantors; decision affirmed on appeal
  • Negotiated resolution on behalf of a national bank of a five-party dispute alleging cloud on title and negligent mortgage loan servicing
