Australia | Press release - Firm | March 2025
Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised GreenSquareDC, an Australian data centre provider, on a $1.2 billion investment from Partners Group to establish a platform for DC investment in Australia. The seed asset of the platform is a brownfield data centre site in Sydney.
Partners Group is one of the largest firms in the global private markets industry, with over USD 150 billion in overall assets under management globally. GreenSquareDC will become an owner, developer, and operator of large-scale sustainable data centres across key Australian cities.
The Norton Rose Fulbright team has been involved on this project for some time and advised on all aspects of the transaction for GreenSquareDC.
Bryan Pointon, senior consultant at Norton Rose Fulbright commented:
“We were pleased to bring together a multi-disciplinary team of partners and other lawyers to assist GreenSquareDC secure investment that will be transformational to its growth as a next-generation data centre provider in Australia.”
Michael McKee, partner and head of real estate at Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia further commented:
“Data centres are obviously a major focus for real estate and infrastructure investors in Australia right now. They are unique assets, with bespoke requirements unlike most other assets in the real estate sector – and we’ve seen, from the work Norton Rose Fulbright has done in this sector across the globe (including in the US, the UK and Europe), how these deals are done and how they’re structured. We were absolutely delighted to work with GreenSquareDC on this transaction and be able to leverage our team’s leading edge global experience in this fast-growing sector.”
The Norton Rose Fulbright team was co-led by Michael McKee (Real Estate) and Bryan Pointon (Corporate), with support from partners Jeremy Wickens, Greg Reinhardt and Marshall Bromwich; special counsel Marcia Vlahovic; senior associates Igor Kungurov and Sophie Lim; and associate William Batt. The Norton Rose Fulbright team worked closely with GreenSquareDC’s lead advisors, Berkeley Advisory. Partners Group was represented by Andrew Crook, Reuben van Werkum and Rebecca Elgar of Clifford Chance.
Norton Rose Fulbright’s global digital infrastructure and data centre capability comprises an integrated and international team of lawyers across key practice areas including corporate, banking, projects, data protection, competition and real estate who advise investors, operators, developers and service providers at every stage of the data centre life cycle.
