Biography

Elizabeth Yong is a litigation and disputes lawyer based in Dubai.

Elizabeth focuses on commercial litigation and arbitration. She has experience working on a wide range of cross-border commercial disputes including complex fraud and asset-tracing, shareholders disputes, cyber-risk advisory and construction disputes. She has been involved in enforcement matters relating to the UAE and in particular the ADGM, and Dubai onshore courts.

Elizabeth has experience advising sovereign wealth funds, government-linked entities, employers and contractors, financial institutions and high net worth individuals.

Elizabeth was previously based in the London office prior to joining the Dubai team in 2022. She has also undergone a client secondment at Goldman Sachs in London. Prior to joining the firm, Elizabeth worked in-house in a multinational construction and logistics corporation in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where she was involved in various large scale EPC infrastructure projects and disputes.

  • Acted as principal advisors to a HNWI client - in relation to shareholder’s disputes spanning across multiple jurisdictions in the Middle East, Liechtenstein and Jersey which lasted for over 5 years. The matter involved several allegations including, amongst others, breach of trust, mismanagement and negligence, as well as fraud claims. Following obtaining worldwide freezing injunction, successful in resolving the dispute which led to a commercial settlement for the client.
  • A major Saudi Arabian bank - in respect of certain contentious and non-contentious matters arising out of the construction of its new headquarters in Riyadh. Engaged in expert determination process to resolve EOT and related costs claims from the contractor.
  • A Chinese contractor - in relation to a dispute regarding repayment issues on construction of a power plant.
  • A globally significant player in the food and beverage industry - on a potential dispute with a major partner.
  • A renewable energy company - in respect of shareholder dispute relating to a joint venture.
  • A Moroccan manufacturer - in an ongoing dispute with a UAE distributer relating to its intellectual property rights, royalties and licensing as well as breach of contract. 
  • Acted for a shareholder - in relation to a shareholder’s dispute for a DIFC entity. 
  • Joint liquidators - in respect of a obtaining a KSA Court order for the recovery of bitcoin and monies against the investors of a crypto company upon a South African High Court ruling.
  • A major sovereign wealth fund - in respect of a number of claims from a number of contractors and consultants on numerous projects across Abu Dhabi.
  • A major food exporter - in relation to payment disputes for the enforcement of a promissory note in the UAE.
  • Cyber breach incident response – involved in various workstreams which includes customer communications, analysis of data breach impact, data protection laws and reporting obligations in various jurisdictions, and communications with forensic team.
  • Claims arising out of data breach – on the fallout from cyber incidents and the severity of claims brought by data subjects and third parties in relation to their data being compromised, which includes class action litigation.
  • Tabletop exercise and risk advisory – providing guidance to cybersecurity and risks teams within an organisation via tabletop exercise and risk simulation scenarios.
  • Data protection policy review – reviewing of client’s data privacy policies and internal governance mechanisms such as risk escalation policies and technical measures for protection to adhere with the latest relevant data protection laws.
