Biography
Steven Legault is a corporate and commercial lawyer based in Ottawa with a broad business practice, including banking, corporate finance, project finance, infrastructure, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate and commercial matters. He has experience working across several industry sectors, including financial services, mining, renewables, technology, and infrastructure. Steven has advised clients on offtake arrangements in the critical minerals sector.
Steven completed an MBA at the University of Ottawa with a course focus on finance. He joined our Ottawa office as a summer student in 2020 and as an articling student in 2021. Before law, Steven had a previous five-year career in the retail sector in store operations management for a leading outdoor equipment retailer.

Banking & Finance
- Advising the Bank of Montreal on various demand revolving credit facilities totaling $79 million being provided to a private Ontario borrower in the construction industry
- Advising the export credit agencies, commercial lenders and hedge providers on the financing of the Mantoverde copper mine expansion project in Chile
- Advising Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx on the $443-million station and in-corridor improvements at multiple sites along the Lakeshore West line in Ontario
- Representing an investor negotiating of a USD commodities prepayment, offtake agreement, and bonding facility with respect to developing of a copper project in Peru
- Representing the borrower, a United Kingdom based renewable energy fund, in connection with the project financing of multiple wind power projects in Alberta and Saskatchewan
- Acting for the lender in the extension of corporate financing to a Mexican silver mine
Mergers & Acquisitions
- Advising the sellers in connection with the share sale of The Armstrong Monitoring Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of gas detection monitoring systems located in Ottawa
- Acting for the purchaser in connection with the share purchase of Gravure-Craft Limited, a funeral supply wholesale business located in Toronto
- Representing the seller in connection with a share sale of its equipment rental business
Commercial
- Acting for Nouveau Monde Graphite Inc. in the negotiation of its long-term critical mineral offtake agreements with OEMs
