Murray is an employment and labour lawyer based in Durban. Murray has acted as the head of the employment and labour division in the practice’s Durban office since 1994 and has been specialising in labour related matters since admission in 1988.

What distinguishes Murray is that he works on collective labour issues such as collective bargaining and strikes which are very prevalent in South Africa. The effective protection of clients and corporates from onerous conditions is a considerable focus for his practice. He has drafted a central Constitution for the National Furniture Bargaining Councils – which meant incorporating best practice from each of the Constitutions of the different regions.

He is also a specialist in restructuring and the rationalisation of businesses (including retrenchments) and the impact of the transfer or sale of businesses on corporates and their employees.

Murray has a strong litigation practice and represents corporates in the Labour Courts, the CCMA and Bargaining Councils. He has experience in constitutional law, land restitution, occupational, health and safety and pension law.

His clients include both global and local corporates who rely on his advice in complex employment and labour matters.
