Biography

Rebecca Winthrop has a diverse practice counseling both debtors and creditors in complex financial restructuring and insolvency proceedings.

Her practice ranges from representing financial institutions, investment funds, purchasers of distressed assets, unsecured creditors and debtors in Chapter 11 bankruptcies in multiple industries, including energy, agriculture, real estate and manufacturing, to counseling creditors and debtors in out-of-court workouts and assignments for the benefit of creditors. Rebecca also regularly advises healthcare providers regarding their rights under joint venture and joint operating agreements, and as parties to third party vendor, equipment and physician recruitment agreements in the event of bankruptcy.

Rebecca has significant public finance experience representing municipalities in connection with their due diligence and securities disclosure obligations (including general obligation and special revenue bonds, and those involving statutory liens) and evaluating the rights of debtors, bondholders and other creditors under Chapter 9 of the Bankruptcy Code. She has advised indenture trustees and bondholders in multiple bankruptcies involving high-yield securities.

Rebecca is a Central District of California Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. She has received numerous honors, including being selected as one of Los Angeles Business Journal's Top 100 Lawyers in 2023. She has been named to The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law as well as the 2024 Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Bankruptcy and Restructuring guide. Rebecca is a past Co-Chair of the Insolvency Law Committee of the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association and a past Board Member of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum. She is a member of the Financial Lawyers Association, the California Society of Financial Analysts, Women in Public Finance, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles and the California Society of Healthcare Attorneys.
