Biography
Mike Stimson is an experienced technology transactions lawyer focused on intellectual property, information technology and data protection law. He provides strategic advice to clients across a wide range of complex transactions, including joint ventures, strategic alliances, intellectual property and technology transfers, patent and technology licenses, software licenses, development agreements, and other commercial contracts (such as supply, distribution, and service agreements).
Mike’s work bridges the legal, technical and commercial aspects of technology transactions. He takes a practical, business-oriented approach to develop strategies and solutions that effectively address the challenges of complex deals. His clients come from diverse industries, including life sciences, digital health, healthcare, financial services, chemical, clean energy, software, oil and gas, and the technology sector.
Mike has significant experience managing technology, data and intellectual property issues in M&A, investment, and financing transactions. Mike is well-versed in the nuances of open source and Creative Commons licensing.
Before joining Norton Rose Fulbright, Mike served as in-house counsel at a global medical technology company where he was responsible for strategic IP portfolio development and resolving IP disputes. This in-house experience provides him with a valuable perspective on the demands and needs of clients, allowing him to tailor his legal advice to align with business objectives.

Advising emerging and established companies and universities on in-license, out-license, strategic collaboration, and development agreements across a broad range of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device products and technologies, including small molecule pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, antibody therapeutics, immunotherapies, regenerative medicines, and vaccines. Negotiation of research and commercial agreements, including CRO, material transfer, clinical trial, manufacturing, labeling, packaging, supply, distribution, pharmacovigilance, and quality agreements.
Software, Cloud & Software-as-a-Service Technologies. Advising software developers, distributors and customers in the negotiation and preparation of software, software-as-a-service, cloud, data, and other IT agreements.
Energy, Petrochemicals, Utilities. Advising developers, financiers, and owners on technology and intellectual property issues relating to the acquisition, development, financing and disposal of conventional and renewable energy, battery energy storage, carbon capture, ammonia, and petrochemical projects.
Corporate Transactions. Advising clients on the IP, IT and data privacy aspects of M&A, investment, and financing transactions, including due diligence, negotiation of key representations, warranties, covenants and indemnities, and the structuring and negotiation of ancillary licensing and transition services agreements.
