We have advised global leader in sustainable energy solutions, Vestas, on Stage 2 of the Golden Plains Wind Farm.

Australia Press release - Firm July 2024

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised global leader in sustainable energy solutions, Vestas, on Stage 2 of the Golden Plains Wind Farm.

The Golden Plains Wind Farm is Vestas’ largest onshore windfarm in the world and together with Stage 1, will feature 205 V162-6.2 MW wind turbines from the EnVentus platform, with a total capacity of 1.33 GW. Vestas has partnered with TagEnergy and project operator WestWind to deliver the engineering, procurement and construction and operation and maintenance of the projects.

Vestas is the world’s largest manufacturer of wind turbines, has the highest market share for installed capacity and maintains the most amount of wind turbines in Australia.

Stage 2 of the project reached financial close recently and is now under construction by Vestas. Vestas is currently delivering the 756 MW EPC contract for the first stage. The extension will provide an additional 577 MW, generating a total of 1.3 GW, making it Vestas’ largest ever onshore wind farm.

Norton Rose Fulbright advised Vestas on the Civil Balance of Plant and Electrical Balance of Plant contracts, with MPC Kinetic and Consolidated Power Projects respectively.

Norton Rose Fulbright partner and projects and construction team leader, Luke van Grieken, commented:

“It has been a privilege to support Vestas on Stages 1 and 2 of this project, since 2021.  This builds on our long history of supporting Vestas on their projects in Australia. We were also thrilled see first-hand the impressive progress of the works of Stage 1 earlier this year, including installation of their V162 wind turbines and balance of plant works.  We look forward to continuing to work with Vestas as they continue to lead Australia in wind energy generation projects.”

Vestas – Australian Wind Technology Pty Ltd head of legal ANZ Lucy Campbell commented:

“Through our best-in-class people, wind turbines and capabilities, Vestas is delighted to build and service this landmark project. As the world’s largest provider of wind energy, we have always been committed to Australia’s sustainable future and we thank TagEnergy and our subcontractor partners for joining us in this world-changing mission and Norton Rose Fulbright for their valuable support to date”.

The Norton Rose Fulbright team was led by Luke van Grieken, with partner Steven Choi, senior associate Lachlan Wood, associate Dylan Landgren, and lawyer Jayne Kelly.
