Donald Campbell joins our Vancouver office as Senior Strategy Advisor

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright welcomes Don Campbell as senior strategy advisor based in its Vancouver office. Don will be working closely with the firm’s lawyers and clients by developing and promoting thought leadership on specialized topics and industry sectors where he has extensive experience, including trade and economic policy, Canada-US cross-border issues, the energy sector and  the Asia-Pacific region.

Don was formerly deputy minister of foreign affairs and the prime minister’s personal representative for G8 Summits (1997-2000), and deputy minister of international trade (1989-1993) in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. In his career in the Canadian foreign service he held posts as Canada’s ambassador to Japan (1993-1997), assistant deputy minister (United States) (1985-1989) and Canada’s ambassador to South Korea (1984-1985). Earlier diplomatic postings included Kenya, the United Kingdom, Jamaica and the United States. While deputy minister of international trade he supervised the negotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and as assistant deputy minister he was deeply involved in the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement.

Don entered the private sector as group president of CAE from 2000-2007. He is the former International co-chair of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) and current chair of the Canadian committee of PECC, as well as a distinguished fellow of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. He serves and has served on several profit and not-for-profit boards, including his current position on the board of directors of Toyota Canada Inc.

Don previously worked as senior strategy advisor with another major international law firm from 2007 to 2022.
