Biography

Stephen Nelson joined the New York office in 1997 as senior counsel in the real estate practice group. From 1987 to 1996, Mr. Nelson worked at the Rockefeller Center Management Corporation as Real Estate Counsel and then Vice President and General Counsel. Mr. Nelson has been able to blend his in-house expertise with his real estate practice to bring a unique perspective to complex real estate transactional matters. During his 32 years of practice, Mr. Nelson has advised domestic and international clients in their leasing, acquisition, disposition and financing of gasoline service stations and convenience stores, shopping centers, office towers, race tracks, and hotel projects.

  • Advised owner in connection with the lease of 1,000,000+ sq. ft. headquarters facilities for publishing company.
  • Advised purchaser in connection with real estate aspects of $100 million stock acquisition of retail clothing company.
  • Negotiated seven (7) supermarket leases (most containing in excess of 50,000 sq. ft.) in New York City and surrounding areas.
  • Advised owner of a retail shopping center on leasing, operational and construction matters.
  • Advised a publically-traded REIT in connection with recapitalizing a portfolio of approximately 9,000,000 sq. ft. of commercial office space in the Southwestern United States with a new equity value of approximately $2 billion.
  • Advised numerous companies in real estate transactions, including leasing and subleasing space in Manhattan and other parts of the United States and internationally for office, industrial, warehouse, manufacturing and data center uses.
  • Advised owner of a retail shopping center on leasing, operational and construction matters.
  • Advised large physician group in real estate matters including leasing work for space for office, research and healthcare services.
