Pensions Regulator publishes blog on increase of investment decision-making skills for trustees for better member outcomes

United Kingdom Publication December 2022

On December 9, 2022, the Regulator published a blog suggesting that trustees should take advantage of the support and guidance available to increase their investment decision-making skills and take action to enable pension savers to access the investment opportunities that best support good outcomes. In the blog, David Fairs said: “Trustees of DC schemes are now at a fork in the road on their DC journey. However, the direction of travel is clear: trustees need to either upskill or up sticks. [T]he days of small, subscale DC schemes offering some benefits, but not much value to members, are over.”

The Regulator welcomes the publication of the suite of guides by the PFWG (see item above), which have been prepared to support trustees and advisers when considering the opportunities offered by illiquid investments.
